An anonymous Canadian contributor tells us about The Big Split In Canadian BMX

BMX Basics stickers are everywhere... Singapore Track Director has them on his two MOSH Methods (bike 1 and bike 2)... another reader put on in his office! Hey, put the website down and get back to work!

How'd I do on my new Mosh? Find out. Warning: contains excessive sentimentality and photos.

Always be careful when you send me a link to photos of yourself, I might post it.

I received an email from Jim Porter of Midwest old-school fame, informing me that Shannon Williams never attended the ABA Grands. Verifying the claim may be difficult, as the ABA may not have any records any more, and Shannon doesn't remember the Eighties. (hee hee).

What kind of media coverage do you get when you win the Worlds on a $200 bike? Find out.

Two weeks ago I broke my Vigor "Vamoose" helmet and sent it back to the manufacturer. Although I had owned the helmet since Christmas of 1997, had no receipt, and had obviously beaten the heck out of it, Vigor offered me a new Vamoose 2 for $68 shipped to my door, less than half of retail. I am very pleased with my new helmet, and recommend Vigor to everyone who is interested. Note to the manufacturers who contact me - THIS is how you get an endorsement. Make a good product. Don't bother to try to bribe me. This isn't "Transworld BMX".

The stickers are on their way to the lucky rider who identified this guy correctly - obviously (to me, at least), it's Richard M. Stallman, President of the Free Software Foundation. Mr. Stallman was my guest for dinner last Friday night at MIT. He talked me into volunteering to write a book for the FSF...

Somebody decided to sit down and take photos of wrecks at the NBL Worlds - check 'em out. Notice how many riders stay clipped in as their bikes tumble overhead. Would you attach a twenty-five-pound weight to your foot and let it swing free for a while? No? Why not? Knee damage, you say? Hmm...

I forgot to mention that Raul won the World Championships on a tri-moly Redline 444! I paid $100 for the bike and lent it to him for the Worlds. If Raul is winning on a 29-pound cruiser with a steel rear triangle, and you are saving up for a Powerlite/Hawk/some other piece of aluminum junk, what's your excuse?

Congratulations to Cruiser World Champion and Challenger #2 Raul Ruiz Astorga! It looks like selling him my bike was the right decision. :) Meanwhile, I have purchased a Mosh Bagley Four Star from Mama's.

Mrs. Boswell took an interesting (361K) photo yesterday. This is really what BMX is all about for me - a nearly empty track, a few friends and new riders hanging around, and yours truly finally clearing a stubborn set of little doubles.

I have been reprinted (with my permission) by the Xtreme Index.

I never write about minis - luckily, I found someone who would.

Color me BADD-less - to find out why, check out the August column.

Some really neat stuff in this photo page - bunnyhopping instruction, a twenty-two-foot 'hop-gap', some people backflipping, a kid clearing 14" on a scooter, and the first-ever released publicity photo of the new Boswell House.

A very busy week focusing on cars, not bikes - read my recent driving impressions.

"Bmxman 69" covers some important aspects of bike maintenance.

"Bmxman 69" continues with his series about bike maintenance - this time, focusing on cranks.

Boswell's New Car(tm) has arrived!

Take a look at this Spanish-language contribution by top Bolivian Elite rider Pablo Ordonez. If you can read Spanish, see what you think!

"Bmxman 69" has submitted his second column - this one is about cranks. Check it out!

Hey, I forgot to put up the group photo fom BMX Basics Skatepark Day #1. Skatepark Day #2 will be some weekend in March. More details to come.

Thank you, Rachel.

My leg is feeling much better. Yes, I did enjoy my trip to the skatepark regardless of this, and managed to ride for an hour after the injury.

The new metallurgy article is finally up.

Help! FOX is planning to turn Speedvision into an all-NASCAR channel. That means no more Formula 1, no more "Two-Wheel Tuesday", no more Motor Trend TV, no more Motorsports History... ack! If you think this is going too far, sign the petition against it. Nothing against NASCAR, but that stuff's on every hour of every day of the week. If you want to watch 500cc Grand Prix, or AMA Superbike, Speedvision is pretty much the only source.

My analysis of the UCI/NBL/ABA business.

Looks like the NBL and UCI are at it again... take a look here.

I have written a summary of, and response to the e-mail sent to me on the morning of the 21st.

news flash - This morning (June 21) I received an email from someone purporting to be the "NBL Admin" containing a rebuttal to my June column. The headers look genuine. I have asked for permission to print it and to respond to it here - if that permission is not granted, I probably cannot put it up here, but I will print a summary of, and response to, the communication.

Woo-hoo! Cannondale strikes again - this time with Ravens that shed their built-in seat clamps on downhills. Some companies never learn.

I am so infatuated with my new hobby of skatepark riding that I bought a car just to go to Chenga World! It's a classic - take a look and let me know what you think.

After reading this feature about a young hacker/programmer who killed himself, I was disgusted. Another young life wasted because of idiocy in our schools. I realize this is "off-topic" for this website, but please read this and take the lessons to heart. The Bridges of Morgan County (mostly for parents)

The UCI retracts, but is it too late?

A few 640x480 photos of my Bolivian friends at the local trails, including a rare shot of an airborne Boswell, can be seen here.

"BMXman69" weighs in with a controversial guest column.

Other than my wedding ring and trusty Seiko Kinetic, I haven't worn any jewelry in fifteen years. However, I am disturbingly delighted with a necklace I just got from Bike Body Gear. Their stuff is made from spoke nipples, small bolts, chain segments, and other stuff. Before you run over to Dan's and get the "chain necklace" that everyone else is wearing, take a look at this stuff - it's WAY better. (By the way, this is probably the closest thing to a commercial endorsement you will ever see here. I recently turned down a major manufacturer's offer to "partner" with them here at BMX Basics...)
